Considered a pioneer of underground comics with the publication of his God nose cartoons in 1964, Jack “Jaxon” Jackson (1941-2006) began drawing comics for the Austin Texas ranger, a humor magazine at the University of Texas, and other college humor magazines. In the mid-1960s, he moved to San Francisco, where he became art director for Family Dog Productions, overseeing the psychedelic poster operations for the Avalon Ballroom and greatly influencing the psychedelic art phenomenon.
